About Me

HAROLD KRAUS

Harold Kraus is an American painter known for his distinctive command of color and light. Born in the mid-1940s to German parents, Kraus was introduced to painting at an early age by his father, an artist whose influence helped shape a lifelong creative pursuit.

Now based in Tennessee, Kraus has built a respected career marked by numerous solo exhibitions and a growing international presence. He describes himself simply as a “colorist”—an artist driven by a deep fascination with the emotional and atmospheric power of color.

Working in an impressionistic style with expressive undertones, Kraus creates vibrant compositions that celebrate joy, memory, and the warmth of shared human experiences. His subjects—often inspired by leisure, travel, and fleeting moments of happiness—are brought to life through luminous palettes and dynamic light.

In a world often drawn to restraint, Kraus offers something intentional and refreshing: paintings that invite the viewer to embrace color fully, to feel deeply, and to reconnect with moments of light, beauty, and nostalgia.

“As a colorist, my work is rooted in the belief that color has the power to uplift, energize, and reconnect us to meaningful moments.”
